What Happens During a 30-Day Rehab Program in Brooklyn

A 30-day rehab program gives people enough time to get through detox, settle into treatment, and start building a plan for what comes after. For someone looking for quality alcohol rehab, it can be a realistic first step into structured inpatient care. At Urban Recovery, programs can run from 30 to 90 days, depending on what each patient needs clinically.

‍

Before You Arrive: The Admissions Call

Treatment starts with the admissions call. Our team asks what substances are involved, how long use has been going on, whether withdrawal symptoms have started, and whether there are any medical or mental health concerns we should know about.

Insurance is also checked during this call. The goal is to make sure the right level of care is available and that the patient knows what to expect before arriving. Same-day admissions are available seven days a week.

‍

Days 1 Through 3: Assessment and Stabilization

When a patient arrives, the clinical team completes a full intake assessment. This includes substance use history, current medications, physical health, mental health, trauma history, and prior diagnoses. From there, the team builds a treatment plan around that person’s needs.

The first few days are often the hardest physically. Withdrawal symptoms can be intense, especially with alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids. Our staff monitors vital signs, manages symptoms with medication when appropriate, and adjusts care as the patient’s condition changes.

For patients who qualify, medication-assisted treatment may begin during this stage. Suboxone or Buprenorphine may be used for opioid dependence to help reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

‍

Days 4 Through 7: Completing Medical Detox

By days four through seven, many patients are past the most difficult part of withdrawal. They may be sleeping better, eating more normally, and feeling clearer. Detox length varies, but alcohol detox often takes five to ten days, while opioid detox is often five to seven days with MAT support.

Clinical programming starts to increase during this time. Patients who are medically stable begin attending groups, meeting with their counselor, and getting used to the structure of residential treatment.

Discharge planning also starts early. It is not something saved for the last day.

‍

Days 8 Through 14: Moving Into Residential Rehab

After detox, patients move directly into residential rehab at Urban Recovery. There is no transfer to another facility and no gap in care. The same team continues working with the patient as treatment shifts from physical stabilization to recovery work.

This is when the full schedule begins. Patients take part in 35 hours of counseling each week, including daily group therapy seven days a week. Groups focus on coping skills, relapse prevention, communication, emotional regulation, trauma, and daily recovery habits.

Weekly individual counseling gives patients time to work privately on the parts of their story that may not come up in group.

‍

Days 15 Through 21: Building Skills and Stability

By the third week, many patients have settled into the rhythm of treatment. The focus is no longer just getting through withdrawal. It becomes about understanding triggers, practicing new skills, and building stability.

DBT skills are practiced in daily life, not just talked about in sessions. Group relationships often become a source of support and accountability. Patients begin to see what they will need after leaving inpatient care.

Mental health needs are addressed during this phase, too. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other co-occurring conditions are treated alongside substance use. Art therapy, music therapy, yoga, acupuncture, and fitness programming also continue as part of the schedule.

‍

Days 22 Through 30: Preparing for Discharge

The final week focuses on the next step. The counselor, case manager, and clinical team finalize an aftercare plan based on what the patient needs after leaving inpatient treatment.

That plan should be specific. It may include an intensive outpatient program, therapy appointments, medication follow-up, support groups, sober living, and relapse prevention resources. Our team works to identify the next level of care, check insurance coverage, and schedule the first appointment before discharge.

A good discharge plan helps the patient leave with direction, not just a list of suggestions.

‍

Is 30 Days Always Enough?

For some patients, 30 days is enough to complete detox, stabilize, and step down into outpatient care. For others, more time is needed. Benzodiazepine dependence, co-occurring mental health concerns, or slower stabilization may call for a longer stay.

At Urban Recovery, discharge readiness is reviewed throughout treatment. If more time is clinically appropriate, that conversation happens early and clearly, not at the last minute.
